The Theory and The Practice
Ignatian spirituality has become extremely popular in recent decades – but what is it all about? Why is the teaching on prayer of this 16th-century Spaniard, the founder of the Jesuit order, still so inspiring today?
Join us for a two-part webinar series exploring The Way of St Ignatius, led by Margaret Hebblethwaite, the author of a book on Ignatian spirituality, who has experience of guiding people though the Spiritual Exercises in daily life.
Webinar 1: The Theory
Wednesday, 28 May, 6-7pm BST
In this session, we will explore Ignatius of Loyola’s teachings on prayer as laid out in his
Spiritual Exercises.
Webinar 2: The Practice
Thursday, 29 May, 6-7pm BST
In this follow-up session, we move to practical application, experiencing an Ignatian contemplation of the Gospel — specifically, Luke’s account of the empty tomb. A chance to engage in prayer as Ignatius taught it.
Ignatius offers Christians who are working in the world a form of ‘retreat— an intense period of biblically-based, silent prayer (often a week or a month), to encounter God more deeply and make or reassess life choices.
Margaret Hebblethwaite has been involved with Ignatian spirituality since the late 1970s and is the author of Finding God in All Things: The Way of St Ignatius (HarperCollins Fount, 1987 and 1994).
